Hi, everyone! My name is Ma Shi Qi, and I know it's going to be hard for most of you to pronounce my name properly, so you can always call me Stephanie. I am currently an International Development Studies student, I was actually in Management program when I first started studying in utsc, but I realized it isn't what I wanted for future, so then I transferred into IDS program. I emigrated from China around 6 years ago, and was fortunate enough to take English lessons in Highschool to catch up with the language, because I have met several friends in school who actually came as Visa student or new immigrants and are having lots of trouble with English. I can speak Canthonese, Mandarin and English, and I'm currently studying Japanese for my own interest, and I would love to learn more languages if possible.

There are few reasons why I took this course, not only because this is one of the required courses in IDS program, and also because the title of the course is called "Knowledge and Communication for Development". I love to talk to people, which is also one of the reason why I love to study languages, because I find communication is a very important thing in life. Not only it helps you making friends, but also enhance the bonds of you and others. Communication helps when solving misunderstandings, and also improves living qualities. etc, gather people's ideas and opinions of certain products helps improving the product. Therefore, I really wanted to give this course a try and learn about how knowledge and communication helps in development.

At first I thought this course is going to be the same with most of the other IDS courses I have taken, which involves lots of reading and perhaps memorizing histories of relative events, but after the first few classes I realized that this course is completely different. I am looking forward to learn a lot about how technology helped in development, and how knowledge and communication contributes in creating of the technologies for the modern world. It is very fascinating to learn about not only how certain things can change our world and to also learn how it works. It's very hard to say what I envision to get from this course, but this course is definitely very unique and interesting, and I have a feeling that I can learn many things along the way.
