Hi Everyone!

My name is Charmaine Ramirez and I am currently a third year double-major in Political Science and International Development Studies at UTSC. My parents decided that Canada was the best place for my siblings and I to complete our post-secondary education and eventually build successful careers. In 2002, we migrated to Canada from the Philippines. The Philippines is a well-known Third World country and growing up, I was constantly reminded of how fortunate I was to be able to attend school in Toronto. The history of my family and the current state of my country of origin has sparked my interest in International Development. In the future, I hope to continue my education in International Relations and eventually pursue a career in Education and become a Professor.

Like many of you, I am curious to see how well I will do in this course. Throughout my school career, I've always been taught and learned in a very conventional way. This included a textbook, a teacher, and a few ways of examination. However, I know I always learned best through conversation and interaction with my peers. I look forward to being exposed to other means of learning and how information through technology can be of use. I'm the most "tech-savvy" person out there but I am more than willing to improve this skill.

This course is completely out of my comfort zone. However, I view this in a positive light since it will widen my perspective on the real importance and advantage of information communication technology.

Follow my blog CONFESSIONS OF AN ACTIVE LEARNER and share your experiences with me this semester.

I wish you all the best!

Hi Charmaine, thanks for your introduction, and your positive spirit! I'm sure you'll do great! Do you speak Tagalog? I think that it's related to Indonesian, which I speak - if I see Tagalog written, the structure looks familiar, although I can't understand it. Have you thought of places to study further? You should look at the CIDEC program at OISE downtown, it's got a very "IDS-y" feel to it, and is very well recognized.
