Arab States Workspace

Page history last edited by Mina Waziri 11 years, 5 months ago
Factors to better understand the case studies as pertains to this class (taken directly from stage 2 description on assignment page) Syria (Connor's country of focus)  Saudi Arabia (Mina's country of focus)
Social, political and economic background of the country as it pertains to the specific case study
What form of technology was used in case study and how wide-spread was the usage and access to this particular form of technology?
Which groups of citizens were involved in its usage and why?
How was technology used to advance political interests?
How successful do you feel the citizens were in terms of making their voices heard and receiving political change? Evidence of this.
Any extra information

Hi guys, Mina here, just though it might be helpful for the stage 3 if we had an organized chart that clearly states the case study we each focused on, making them ideal for easy comparison and contrast. Ideally this chart would be a summary of the stage 2.

Hope this helps! if you guys have any questions or if anything seems a bit unclear to you, you may contact me via email: mina_waziri@hotmail.ca. We should have this done by November 9th and then have the rest of the week (the extension as posted by Leslie) to just polish things up.

By the way just to let you guys know, I am still polishing up my stage two (that is because I did some addistional reasearch, from the date it was due) so I will edit my case study report first and then update the summary onto the chart above...all by Thursday. By Friday, I am thinking we should start to assemble the stage 3, using the conclusions we drew from the comparison chart above. (we can discuss the similarities and differences via messenger..if you guys still use it (I know I haven't for a while, but I find the interface better than facebook, unless we create a facebook page specifically so we can discuss this project..but I find facebook has too many distractions..notifications and all >.<) so I have given you guys my email above. hopefully we can all agree to use this as a forum to discuss our findings and what we thought of similarities and differences among cases...as we really dont have much time.

Let me know what you guys think!!

**Update** November 7: Anannya is no longer in our group so its just us two (from what is posted on the group sign-up page)

Hey guys! Just looking to get this chat fired up a bit. Has anyone done any research on possible case studies or have any thoughts about it? Personally I have found it a little difficult finding things.

Connor McCauley said

Connor McCauley said

The earlier the better for me this Friday. Where is everyone located?

Anannya Dey said

lets meet at UTSC? If everyone can make it?

Connor McCauley said

so since it was just anannya and i on that last effort to meet we need a few more bodies to merit an actual group get together. is everyone in? if so list your next possible availability. mine would be wednesday around 5pm. if a physical meeting cannot be organized though i suggest we do an online meeting. perhaps via facebook. if we are all online at the same time a group message would work as a mini chat room i think.

Hi Connor and Anannya,
So sorry for replying late!
This coming Wednesday around 5pm sounds great for a physical meeting at UTSC, since I finish class @4. If that doesn't work we can always do facebook... the project is due Ocotober 26th. Yikes lol

I am thinking of focusing either on Saudi Arabia (women's rights) or Palestinian Intifada I haven't quite made up my mind yet. How about you guys?

Hey guys, what is going on with this group? How come no one has posted their case studies so far? They were due at midnight last night!

Connor McCauley said

I am unsure as to how I can put a link to my workspace on this page?

Connor McCauley said

hello all! So lets start by having everyone post which country they have done as their case study. And perhaps a little bit about it.

I am doing Syria

Mina Waziri said

I am doing Saudi Arabia -> specifically focusing on women's rights (right to drive)

Hey guys. Was wondering if we're all on board for the group merger.

Just in case you haven't noticed my message on the non-Arab workspace, Aftab has decided to drop the course so the three of you should go ahead with the three cases. Thanks.

Hey guys, since this group is now merging, I am going to adjust the "non-Arab states" page, so that everyone will have permission to edit. At this point, I think the group will just consist of Saman, Mina and Connor. Does that sound okay with all of you?

Connor McCauley said

Okay sounds good to me.

So are we working on this workspace or the non- arab workspace. I posted a lot on the non-arab space but cannot see it anymore.
