I'm changing India to South Asia as I and a couple of other students are from South Asian region but we are not Indians. :)

I am not indian either, but I assume there will at least be a handful of students of Indian decent in this class who may like to stick with India. It is always better to have the permission of Becky or Prof before changing it as the assigned geographical areas are the focus of the bigger research project that prof himself is conducting .

Indeed dividing up the world by "regions" is always a tricky exercise. UNESCO classifies the world as such: Africa, Arab States, Asia and the Pacific, Europe and North America and Latin America and the Caribbean. Becky and I are happy to revise the regions above. Our larger project is at an early stage of development and this is the question we are grappling with. So we are in fact "crowd sourcing" this class for ideas. So Rabia's point is well taken.
We are open to proposal.

Just a slight change - I have divided China into North and South, as we feel there may be quite a lot of interest in that area. Rabia, thanks for taking the initiative to change India to South Asia - definitely a good idea.

Hmm, we've got China and Southeast Asia, but no Northeast Asia? Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong are all left out!
Leslie Chan said

As I noted in an early reply. It's likely we need to rethink the regions, maybe along the line of UNESCO, so we will have Asia and the Pacific, and then have subregions within.

I have South American background, but I would love to take this opportunity to do more research on South East Asia. Is it okay if I sign up in this group? The group working on South America can always reach me if they would like some insight! I'd be glad to help.

I see where you are coming from. However, it would be valuable for you to be in the South America group given your knowledge of the region. S. Am. is also a very large region and I am sure you will benefit from the research. In my view, having a Spanish speaking person is critical given the many initiatives from this region. Please reconsider. Thanks!

Is it possible to sign up for a country now, but possibly change later? I would just like to do some short research on the geographical areas before committing to one, but I don't want to loose a spot in my second choice considering that my first choice was already taken...

Hey All, I created a folder for any groups that are creating a Wiki Page for their respective region. If/when you create a page, you can save it to the Folder Titled "Group Project Wiki Page". Once you save it, to access your page, all you have to do is clink on the "Pages and Files" Link at the top left of the wiki, and the folder will be listed on the left hand side of the the page. Thought it would make it a little easier to find your page inside the wiki! Cheers!

Actually, once all the groups are finalized, we are going to create "groups" for the students using one of the build-in wiki functions (which student users can't access). Once these groups are created, members will be able to exchange messages within group and create "internal" workspace until they are ready to make it public. Thanks for jumping ahead, but don't be surprised if we are going to ask you to do a couple of things differently. Thanks.

on the top left corner of this window, click on "Edit" , from there, you'll be at the page where you can edit your info. In the given space, from whichever topic that interest you (and if there is still space), put your name down. Remember to then click on "Save"

Xu Han, the Africa group is already full. Remember, sign-up is on a first come/ first served basis. Please refer to Danielle's comment, above, for instructions on how to sign up for a different group that currently has less than 4 other students signed up.

Hi Becky,
Am also interested in the African Group and there's this clause added on the African group '(if we have further interest, we will set up two groups for Africa)".
Is it possible for Xu Han, the friend and I to be added to the African group. Am from Africa and more interested in researching in this region especially East Africa.
Maybe we could have two regions East and South Africa vs. North and West Africa.
I'll appreciate your consideration.

How do I create a Google+ hangout for my group, even if I do not have a webcam?
Raissa and Jason, could you please email me your cell numbers at matthew.wang@mail.utoronto.ca so that we can set up a meet-up time and location? Eric already sent his cell number.
Thanks :)
